The Howard Leight R02700 Impact Sport passive hearing protection ear muffs blend passive noise blocking with active sound enhancement—a smart choice for shooters and hunters who need to hear range commands and environmental cues while staying protected from impulse noise. Unlike simple foam plugs, these in-ear muffs let you dial in the hearing boost you need, with an 85 dB safe baseline and up to six levels of amplification above that to customize your listening environment.
The dual omnidirectional in-ear microphones pick up natural sounds and compress them instantly when gunshots or other loud impulses exceed the safe 85 dB threshold, so your ears stay protected from harmful peaks while you hear normal conversation and wind direction. The flexible moldable earhook and three included ear tip sizes let you dial in a secure fit that works all day—critical whether you're running a flat range or glassing the backcountry.
Battery life won't slow you down: the 200mAh lithium battery recharges via USB-C in two hours and powers the digital circuitry and amplification throughout your session. When you're in continuous noise environments—like a shooting range with sustained fire—switch to passive mode for maximum protection without draining battery. The 29 dB Noise Reduction Rating gives you solid baseline defense, and the hear-through volume control puts the boost right at your fingertips.
| Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) | 29 dB |
| Speaker Type | 9mm Dynamic Range |
| Microphones | 2x Omnidirectional In-Ear |
| Battery Type | 200mAh Lithium |
| Charging Method | USB-C |
| Charge Time | 2 hours |
| Sound Enhancement | Up to 6X (eight volume levels above 85 dB safe level) |
| Included Ear Tips | 3 different sizes |
The muffs ship with three different ear tip sizes so you can find the fit that seals best in your ear canal, and a flexible moldable earhook for a secure hold.
The digital microphones listen continuously and automatically compress loud impulse sounds like gunshots while letting you hear normal voices and environmental sounds at an enhanced level—up to 6X amplification. This lets you stay aware of your surroundings and hear commands on the range without removing protection.
The 200mAh lithium battery fully recharges in two hours via USB-C. In continuous noise environments, switch to passive mode to extend battery life and maintain the 29 dB NRR without using active amplification.
The moldable earhook and custom ear tip sizing are designed for comfort over extended sessions. Many shooters and hunters also use passive mode during high-noise periods to reduce battery draw and minimize active amplification fatigue.
