The Hornady Bore Driver ELD-X 50 Caliber muzzleloading bullets are engineered for hunters who demand reliability and terminal performance from their inline or traditional muzzleloader. Unlike traditional saboted designs, these .499-caliber projectiles use a polymer base that seats directly into the bore—no sabot required—making them faster and easier to load shot after shot during the season when every moment counts. The ELD-X bullet atop the base combines a gilding metal jacket with Hornady's polymer tip technology and InterLock ring to deliver controlled expansion and deep penetration on game.
The core innovation here is the bore-coupling design: the polymer base features a post that engages the bullet's boattail while centering petals and a rifling-engaging skirt work together to maximize energy transfer from powder charge to projectile. At ignition, the base swells slightly to increase torque engagement, which means better consistency and accuracy from load to load. That polymer tip acts like a wedge upon impact, driving into the lead core to initiate fast but controlled expansion—critical for clean, ethical kills when you're limited to a single shot.
This 20-pack is built for serious muzzleloader hunters who've learned that bore-driver technology delivers the straightforward loading and hard-hitting performance traditional muzzleloading demands. No fussy sabots, no compromises on bullet design. If you're hunting deer, elk, or other big game with a modern muzzleloader and want ammunition that combines ease of use with terminal lethality, these rounds belong in your shooting bag.

No. The Bore Driver system eliminates the need for sabots. The polymer base seats directly into the bore, reducing loading complexity and improving shot-to-shot consistency.
The ELD-X combines a polymer tip that drives into the lead core upon impact with an InterLock ring and gilding metal jacket. This design delivers controlled expansion, deep penetration, and reliable weight retention for hunting-grade terminal performance.
The base's post engages the bullet's boattail, while centering petals and a rifling-engaging skirt work together to maximize bore seal and energy transmission, improving consistency and accuracy from load to load.
The Bore Driver system is designed for inline and traditional muzzleloaders and delivers the accuracy and performance expected from modern muzzleloader ammunition for hunting applications.
