Hornady
The Hornady 7mm Short (0.284") neck die is a precision reloading die built for handloaders who want to tighten their headspace control and boost accuracy. If you're working with bolt-action rifles and want to move beyond full-length sizing, a dedicated neck die lets you resize only the neck of the case—the part that actually grips the bullet. This targeted approach minimizes case work, reduces unnecessary brass flow, and helps your cartridges shoot tighter groups while extending case life. The Hornady Custom Grade neck die is engineered to precision tolerances, so your rounds feed and chamber consistently.
Neck sizing works best in bolt-action rifles where you're reusing the same brass in the same gun. Unlike full-length dies, which resize the entire case body to factory spec, a neck die focuses only on bringing the neck diameter back to correct dimensions. The result is ammunition that chambers with minimal resistance, aligns bullets straight with your bore, and maintains the exact headspace your rifle prefers. For reloaders chasing tighter accuracy and longer brass life, this is a smart upgrade.
This die is sized for 7mm Short bullets (0.284" diameter) and is designed as part of a complete handloading setup. As with any reloading die, you'll pair it with your press and your other reloading components. Remember: neck dies are meant for bolt-action rifles; auto-loading, lever-action, and pump-action rifles typically need full-length resizing to feed reliably.

| Best For | Bolt-Action Rifles |
No. Neck dies are designed for bolt-action rifles only. Auto-loaders, lever guns, and pump actions typically require full-length resizing to ensure reliable feeding and chambering.
A neck die resizes only the neck of the case, where the bullet sits. Full-length dies resize the entire case body. Neck sizing reduces case work and extends brass life, but is only practical in bolt-action rifles where the same ammo stays in the same gun.
Neck sizing can support accuracy gains by helping to align bullets straight with your bore and reducing inconsistent chamber fit—but accuracy depends on many factors, including powder charge, bullet quality, and your rifle itself.
A neck die is one component of a reloading setup. You'll also need a reloading press, shell holder, powder scale, calipers, brass cases, primers, powder, and bullets specific to your caliber.
