The Hornady ELD-X 30 caliber .308 212-grain hunting bullet combines match-grade accuracy with controlled expansion across all practical hunting ranges. Built with Hornady's proprietary Heat Shield tip, these extremely low-drag expanding bullets maintain their ballistic coefficient even at extended ranges where conventional polymer tips degrade from aerodynamic heating. If you're reloading for precision hunting at distance, the ELD-X delivers the consistency and downrange performance that separates reliable hits from misses.

What makes the ELD-X stand out is the engineering behind that Heat Shield tip. Hornady discovered that conventional high-BC bullet tips soften and deform in flight, causing accuracy degradation beyond 400 yards. The Heat Shield solves that problem with a heat-resistant polymer that creates a perfect, consistent meplat—the tip geometry—from round to round and lot to lot. That consistency matters when you're handloading; it translates directly to tighter groups and more predictable ballistics downrange.

On game, the ELD-X is designed for progressive, controlled expansion. The thin nose section peels back on impact, shedding material as it penetrates. The InterLock ring keeps the core and jacket together as the heavy shank continues to expand, delivering lethal wound channels. Whether you're hunting at conventional distances or pushing farther, the bullet's construction balances controlled expansion with deep penetration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What range is the ELD-X designed for?

The ELD-X is engineered for all practical hunting distances. Hornady specifically addressed the aerodynamic heating that degrades conventional bullet tips at extended ranges (400 yards and beyond), making the ELD-X reliable from close range to distance.

Will the ELD-X expand reliably on game?

Yes. The bullet is designed for progressive expansion throughout its penetration path. The thin nose peels back on impact while the InterLock ring keeps the core and jacket together, allowing the heavy shank to continue expanding for lethal energy transfer.

Is this bullet suitable for handloading?

Absolutely. The ELD-X's exceptional consistency from bullet to bullet and lot to lot makes it ideal for precision handloading. That uniformity is what allows handloaders to achieve the tighter groups and better downrange performance that reloading is known for.
