Hornady CX 30 caliber 165 grain copper solid hunting bullets are engineered for reloaders who demand performance across extended distances and challenging game situations. Built from a monolithic copper alloy construction, these bullets won't separate on impact, delivering the deep penetration and weight retention that serious hunters rely on. The one-piece design retains 95% of its weight, ensuring consistent energy transfer through heavy bone and muscle on medium to large game.

The Heat Shield Tip is a heat-resistant polymer engineered to resist aerodynamic heating, which means your ballistic coefficient stays consistent throughout the bullet's entire flight path—a real advantage when you're stretching distance or dealing with velocity variations from reload to reload. That polymer tip also creates a perfectly consistent meplat (flat point tip), which translates to tighter bullet-to-bullet and lot-to-lot uniformity in your handloads.

The CX's optimum groove geometry balances aerodynamic efficiency with practical reloading benefits: the design reduces bearing surface and fouling, which keeps your barrel cleaner and extends accuracy shot-to-shot. For hunters in California or regions that mandate nontraditional ammunition, the CX is fully compatible with those regulations while performing on everything from medium game to elk and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use CX bullets in states with lead ammunition restrictions?

Yes. The CX is fully California-legal and complies with nontraditional ammunition regulations in other restricted areas. The monolithic copper construction makes it suitable for regions that prohibit lead ammunition.

What game is the 165 grain CX 30 caliber suited for?

These bullets perform on medium-size to large game. The 95% weight retention and deep penetration design is built for reliable performance on elk and similar-sized animals, though they'll work effectively across a range of hunting applications.

Why does the Heat Shield Tip matter for reloading?

The Heat Shield Tip resists aerodynamic heating, which keeps your ballistic coefficient consistent throughout the bullet's flight—even at extended range or with velocity variation between loads. The polymer also creates a perfectly uniform tip shape, which improves consistency from bullet to bullet and batch to batch in your handloads.

Will CX bullets foul my barrel more than traditional designs?

No. The optimized groove geometry actually reduces bearing surface and fouling, which helps keep your barrel cleaner and maintains accuracy shot-to-shot.
