Gamakatsu Hooks
Catfish have tough mouths and thicker lips than most freshwater fish, which means your hook choice matters more than you might think. The Gamakatsu Big Cat Circle Hook in size 7/0 is purpose-built for catfish fishing—whether you're targeting channel cats in your local river, blue cats in a reservoir, or even the massive Wels and Mekong cats if your fishing ambitions take you overseas. This isn't a generic circle hook repurposed for cats; it's engineered from the ground up with catfish anatomy in mind.
What makes these hooks work is the combination of thoughtful design and proven Gamakatsu quality. The offset point design penetrates quickly, so you don't need a hard hook set to drive it home—that matters when you're fishing heavy cover or working live or cut bait. The precision-sharpened point cuts through those thick mouths reliably, and the 2X strong forged steel backbone gives you the power to horse big fish when the situation calls for it. The up-eye design isn't just a detail; it means faster, easier snelling when you're tying on or rigging multiple lines.
You get five hooks per pack, so you have backups for when snags or rough structure claim one, or when you want to set up multiple rigs. Black nickel finish resists corrosion and blends well in clear to stained water alike. This is a working hook for working anglers—no hype, just a tool that does the job it was designed for.

The Gamakatsu Big Cat uses an offset point design, which helps the hook penetrate faster and more reliably when set, even with lighter pressure. This is especially useful when fishing live or cut bait where catfish may mouth the bait before fully committing.
Yes. The 7/0 size and 2X strong steel are rated for blue cats and larger species. The description specifically mentions they're suitable for Wels and Mekong catfish as well, though most US anglers will use them for channels, blues, and flatheads.
The up-eye (the eye positioned at an angle to the hook shank) makes snelling faster and easier compared to a traditional eye. You thread your line through the eye and wrap it around the shank using your preferred snell knot—the angle reduces the friction and fumbling of standard loop eyes.
Each pack contains five Gamakatsu Big Cat Circle Hooks in size 7/0, black nickel finish. The hooks only—line, leaders, and bait are sold separately.
