Foxpro
The Foxpro Crooked Spur V-Cut Slash triple reed turkey diaphragm call is a hands-free mouth call built for hunters who want authentic turkey sounds without external calls or batteries. If you hunt Eastern, Merriam's, or Rio Grande turkeys and prefer traditional calling techniques—or need a backup when your electronic setup fails—this triple reed design delivers the versatility to cover everything from soft clucks and purrs to aggressive cutting sequences that challenge gobbles on the roost and in the field.
Triple reed diaphragm calls have been turkey hunting workhorses for decades because they let you control tone and volume entirely with your breath and mouth position. The V-cut and slash configuration on this Foxpro model gives you multiple sound options from one call, meaning you can adapt your strategy without fishing another call from your vest. White finish helps reduce shadow and hand exposure when you're working a bird close.
Diaphragm calls shine in situations where you need mobility, silence between calls, or a realistic bird-to-bird conversation. Unlike box calls, you've got both hands free for your gun or bow. Unlike friction calls, there's no physical movement to spook a cautious tom. They're also compact enough to pack in a shirt pocket, making them ideal for run-and-gun hunts or as an always-ready backup.
If you're new to mouth calling, expect a short learning curve—these calls reward practice, and most hunters get usable sounds within a few sessions. Experienced callers often rotate multiple reed configurations through a season depending on conditions and bird mood.
Triple reed calls handle the core vocalizations: clucks, purrs, yelps, cuts, and cackles. The specific tone and aggression depend on your mouth position, air pressure, and how you manipulate the reeds. Most hunters find they can produce convincing hen and jake sounds right away, and gobble-challenge sounds with a little practice.
Yes—many beginners start with mouth calls because they're affordable and portable. You'll spend your first few sessions getting comfortable with breath control and reed placement, but there's no mechanical skill required like there is with box or friction calls. Stick with it, and you'll develop muscle memory fast.
Diaphragm calls can be trickier with dentures because you need a good seal and consistent mouth architecture to control the reeds. Some hunters adapt by adjusting call placement or bite pressure, but it's worth trying before you commit if you wear dentures or have significant dental work.
The V-cut and slash refer to the shape of the reed tips. Different cuts produce different tonal qualities and cutting aggression. This triple reed call includes both cuts in one unit, giving you options—try both and dial in the one that matches your hunting situation and calling style.
