Forward Controls Design
The Forward Controls Design AR-15 billet castle nut in burnt bronze is a precision-engineered buffer tube fastener built to stay put. Unlike standard castle nuts that rely on a single staking point, this AR-15 castle nut features four extended staking notches—machined at a shallower 30-degree angle instead of the typical 45-degree spec—that dig deeper into the receiver extension and lock down with significantly more mechanical advantage. Once properly staked, it won't back off or rattle loose from recoil, shooting vibration, or field handling.
Machined from 4140 phosphorus-hardened billet steel and treated with black nitride for corrosion resistance and durability, the Forward Controls Design castle nut is built for serious rifle builders and shooters who demand components that hold zero and don't require constant re-inspection. The coarse serrations on the wrench flats bite into your castle nut wrench and resist slipping during installation—a small detail that matters when you're staking correctly. Proudly manufactured in the USA, it's the kind of upgrade that transforms a critical fastening point from a potential weak link into a genuinely robust assembly.
The burnt bronze finish pairs form with function: it's durable, aesthetically refined, and matches well with other Forward Controls Design parts or any build that favors warm earth tones over standard black. Whether you're assembling a precision rifle, upgrading a duty gun, or refreshing a trusted platform, this castle nut is a no-compromise choice for shooters who understand that reliable fastening is the foundation of reliable performance.

Yes. The Forward Controls Design castle nut is specified for AR-15 and M16 pattern buffer tubes and receiver extensions.
Four extended notches distribute staking force across a larger area and are cut at a shallower 30-degree angle (versus the standard 45 degrees), which creates deeper mechanical engagement when staked. This design prevents rotation and loosening far more effectively than traditional single-notch castle nuts.
You'll need a standard AR-15 castle nut wrench. The coarse serrations on the flats of this nut provide extra grip to reduce slipping during installation and staking.
Forward Controls Design offers this billet castle nut in black, burnt bronze, FDE (Flat Dark Earth), and OD green.
