Federal
Federal Premium Terminal Ascent ammunition in 280 Ackley Improved pairs match-grade long-range accuracy with reliable big game stopping power. This 155-grain load uses a bonded polymer tip design engineered to expand reliably even at reduced velocities—a significant advantage when shots stretch beyond typical hunting distances or when conditions demand controlled, deeper penetration. The 280 Ackley Improved is a proven cartridge for hunters who want the ballistics of the .280 Remington with a touch more velocity and case capacity, and these Terminal Ascent rounds are built to match that precision.
The Terminal Ascent's Slipstream polymer tip initiates expansion 200 fps below the threshold of comparable designs, meaning you get reliable upset even on distant game where velocity has dropped. Copper shank construction bonded to the lead core ensures the bullet stays together through bone and muscle, retaining weight for deep, consistent penetration regardless of impact range. That combination of controlled expansion and weight retention is what separates a hunting round from a match-only load.
Ballistic performance matters too. A .610 ballistic coefficient and AccuChannel groove technology minimize wind drift and drag in flight, which translates to flatter trajectories and tighter wind calls at distance. The sleek profile helps you read conditions more accurately and place shots where they need to go. These rounds come 20 per box—enough for a season of serious long-range hunting and range work.
| Cartridge | 280 Ackley Improved |
| Bullet Weight | 155 grains |
| Bullet Type | Polymer Tip Bonded Boat Tail |
| Ballistic Coefficient | .610 |
| Muzzle Velocity | 2930 fps |
| Round Count | 20 rounds per box |
| Intended Use | Big Game Hunting |
This round is chambered in rifles that accept 280 Ackley Improved cartridges. Verify your rifle's chamber before purchasing, as the 280 AI differs from standard 280 Remington chambers.
Yes. The Terminal Ascent line is designed specifically for long-range hunting applications. The high ballistic coefficient, polymer tip design, and match-grade accuracy make these rounds well-suited to extended-distance big game hunting.
The Slipstream polymer tip is engineered to initiate expansion at velocities 200 fps lower than comparable designs. This makes the round more reliable on distant game where impact velocity has decreased from muzzle velocity.
This package contains 20 rounds of Federal Premium Terminal Ascent 280 Ackley Improved ammunition, each loaded with a 155-grain bonded polymer tip boat tail bullet.
