Federal Premium Personal Defense 9mm Luger 147 Grain HST ammunition is purpose-built for concealed carry and home defense. The 147-grain HST hollow point has earned trust across law enforcement agencies worldwide because it delivers the controlled expansion and penetration needed when it matters most. This is serious self-defense ammo engineered to perform through real-world barriers—not just in ideal test conditions.

The HST design balances two critical demands: reliable expansion without plugging as the bullet passes through clothing, glass, drywall, or vehicle barriers, and consistent weight retention that keeps the projectile from fragmenting or over-penetrating. The nickel-plated case feeds reliably in semi-automatic pistols and resists corrosion in storage, while the high-performance primer ensures ignition you can count on. At 1000 feet per second from a 4-inch test barrel, this load delivers the velocity needed for consistent performance in typical defensive handguns.

Each box contains 20 rounds, making it economical to stock for your primary carry gun or refresh your home-defense supply. Federal's HST has proven itself in FBI testing protocols—the same rigorous standards law enforcement uses to select duty ammunition—and it remains one of the most recommended personal defense loads by professionals who understand the stakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Federal Premium HST 9mm work reliably in my carry gun?

Yes. The nickel-plated case and optimized bullet nose profile are designed for reliable feeding and function in semi-automatic handguns. HST ammunition is proven across a wide range of 9mm platforms used for personal defense.

How does the 147-grain HST compare to lighter 9mm loads?

The 147-grain version delivers a heavier projectile at 1000 fps from a 4-inch barrel, which contributes to the penetration profile Federal engineered for consistent performance through barriers. Lighter loads will behave differently; Federal's HST line is available in multiple weights so you can select what's right for your firearm and training.

Why does Federal's HST ammunition cost more than standard rounds?

HST ammunition undergoes rigorous testing—including FBI protocols—to ensure reliable expansion and penetration through real-world barriers. The nickel-plated case, quality primer, and specially designed hollow point add cost but deliver the reliability and performance you need when self-defense is the mission.

Is this ammunition good for range practice?

HST is designed and priced for personal defense carry and home-defense use. For range training, standard full-metal-jacket 9mm rounds are more economical. Many shooters keep HST loaded in their defensive guns and use practice ammo for training.
