The Faxon Firearms Match Series .308 Winchester 20" 5R rifle barrel is built for shooters who want match-grade accuracy without the match-grade price tag. Faxon manufactures these barrels in-house from 416-R bar-stock and subjects them to rigorous testing before they ship, so you get a precision barrel ready to stack tight groups at the range or in the field. The 1:10 twist pairs well with standard .308 Winchester loads, and the heavy fluted profile keeps weight reasonable while maintaining rigidity.

What sets the Match Series apart is attention to detail in the rifling and finishing. The 5R rifling design—a hybrid pattern with lands opposite grooves and rounded angles—reduces bullet jacket deformation, which means higher velocity and less fouling in the bore. Inside and out, the barrel receives a salt bath Nitride treatment that hardens the steel, extends barrel life, and shrugs off moisture and corrosion. The extension gets a Nickel Teflon coating for dry lubricity and corrosion resistance, plus a tighter fit in your receiver that pays dividends in shot-to-shot consistency.

Whether you're building a long-range hunting rifle, a precision bolt gun for competition, or refreshing a well-loved .308, this barrel delivers the kind of real-world performance that makes reloading and load development worthwhile. You're getting in-house quality control and proven materials—not a commodity barrel that's been rebranded and warehoused a dozen times over.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 5R rifling and why does it matter for accuracy?

5R is a hybrid rifling design with lands opposite grooves and rounded (rather than sharp) angles. This geometry reduces deformation of the bullet jacket as it travels down the bore, which means higher velocity and more consistent performance downrange. The rounded design also makes fouling easier to clean out, so your barrel stays in top shape longer.

Will this barrel work with my .308 bolt-action or AR-10 build?

This barrel has a rifle-length gas system with a 1.1" journal, which is standard for .308 platforms. Confirm your receiver's specs and gas block compatibility before ordering, as installation and function depend on proper pairing with your specific action.

How does the Nitride finish improve barrel life?

Salt bath Nitride treatment hardens the bore and chamber surfaces, making them more resistant to erosion from hot powder gases and brass-to-steel contact over many rounds. It also provides strong corrosion resistance, so the barrel handles moisture and environmental exposure better than bare steel.

Is the Nickel Teflon coating on the extension just for looks?

No—the Nickel Teflon coating on the extension serves two practical purposes. It maintains dry lubricity (low friction without oil), which helps the barrel thread smoothly into your receiver, and the coating also tightens the fit between extension and receiver, improving overall accuracy and reducing shifts between shots.
