If you've built or carry a 1911 Government in .38 Super, you need magazines engineered specifically for that cartridge—not generic .45 ACP adapters. The Ed Brown 1911 Government 38 Super 9-Round Stainless Steel Magazine delivers the reliability and fit your alternate-caliber 1911 demands. Ed Brown designed these mags from the ground up for .38 Super performance, with a heat-treated stainless steel body, a steel follower (not plastic), and a heavy-duty spring that keeps rounds moving smoothly through the magazine well and into the chamber. Whether you're running competition loads, practicing at the range, or carrying concealed, this magazine gives you the dependability you'd expect from one of the industry's most respected 1911 builders.

The mag body is constructed from 410 stainless steel with a welded-on steel baseplate that keeps overall dimensions trim—ideal if you're prioritizing a slim profile for your holster setup. Ed Brown's proprietary hydro-finish process creates a slick, low-friction surface on both the body and follower, shedding dirt, powder residue, and dust that would otherwise gum up feeding or slow down mag seating. This extra smoothness translates to consistent performance whether you're running factory ammo or hand-loaded rounds at competition velocities.

The mag ships with two reversible rubber base pads: a thin protective pad for hard-surface drops during range sessions and a thicker pad that extends length to ease insertion and removal from pistols with extended magwells. Swap them depending on your carry or competition setup. You'll also get witness holes drilled into the body so you can see your round count at a glance, and your choice of natural silver or Black Nitride finish—the latter offering extra corrosion resistance and a non-reflective profile for tactical carry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this magazine work in my .38 Super 1911 Government?

Yes. This magazine is designed specifically for 1911 Government-frame pistols chambered in .38 Super, with a 9-round capacity matched to that cartridge's dimensions and spring requirements.

What's the difference between the two base pads included?

The thin pad offers minimal height and protection during hard-surface drops at the range. The thick pad adds length to make the mag easier to grip during insertion and removal, especially useful if your 1911 has an extended magwell. You can swap them based on whether you're practicing, competing, or carrying.

Is this magazine reliable for competition and carry?

Yes. The steel follower, heavy-duty spring, hydro-finished body, and welded steel baseplate are engineered for consistent feeding and smooth seating in both high-round-count competition scenarios and everyday carry use. The witness holes let you monitor load status quickly.

What finish should I choose?

The natural silver finish is the standard Ed Brown appearance. Black Nitride provides extra corrosion resistance and a non-reflective profile, making it a good choice for tactical or concealed-carry setups where glint matters.
