Ed Brown
The Ed Brown 1911 machined beavertail grip safety is engineered for shooters who demand precision-fit parts built to exacting standards. Unlike stamped or investment-cast alternatives, Ed Brown's fully machined design starts from solid stock, ensuring consistent geometry and a tight fit that enhances both control and reliability. This stainless steel safety is built for 1911 pistols and represents the kind of component-level upgrade that separates a refined carry gun or competition build from an off-the-shelf assembly.
What sets this grip safety apart is its memory groove design—three machined grooves cut into a raised pad that give your hand tactile feedback for proper positioning. That's not just comfort; it's functional. The grooves help you depress the safety consistently while encouraging a higher, deeper grip on the frame. A higher hold naturally positions your hand for better recoil management and sight alignment, which matters whether you're running drills at the range or trusting your 1911 for personal defense.
Ed Brown's attention to detail extends to the fit. A fully machined safety seats securely in the 1911 frame without the play or rattle that comes with looser tolerances. If you're building a 1911 from parts, swapping in a worn or rough factory safety, or simply upgrading to a component that matches the quality of your slide and frame, this machined beavertail is a straightforward, reliable choice that feels and functions like gunsmithing done right.
| Brand | Ed Brown |
| Type | 1911 Machined Beavertail Grip Safety |
| Material | Stainless Steel (S/S) |
| Compatibility | 1911 Pattern Pistols |
This safety is designed for standard 1911 pattern pistols. Fitment can vary depending on frame condition and machine tolerances, so verify compatibility with your specific 1911 before ordering. If you're uncertain, consult the frame manufacturer's documentation or speak with a gunsmith.
Machined safeties like this Ed Brown are cut from solid stock, resulting in tighter tolerances, more consistent geometry, and better fit in the frame. Stamped safeties are pressed from sheet metal and typically have looser fits and less dimensional precision. Machined versions are the choice for quality builds.

The machined grooves give your hand a tactile reference for where to grip the gun, promoting a consistent, higher hand position that naturally improves recoil control, sight alignment, and overall stability during shooting.
