Duck Commander
The Duck Commander Pro Series Double Reed Mallard Hen Call in smoke gray acrylic is a friction-style open call built to produce authentic mallard hen vocalizations that work on responsive ducks. If you're hunting mallards and need a call that sounds natural enough to draw birds into range, a double reed design gives you the tonal flexibility to mix hen clucks, feeds, and contact calls—the bread-and-butter sounds that bring ducks to the decoys. The smoke gray acrylic construction offers durability in the field while keeping the call light and simple to operate.
Double reed calls demand a bit more skill than single reeds, but that's precisely why experienced waterfowl hunters favor them: once you dial in your technique, you have more control over tone, volume, and inflection. Friction calls—meaning you produce sound by rubbing a wood or plastic paddle against the reed—let you make softer, more conversational sounds than air-blown calls, which is exactly what mallhen vocalizations call for. This is a call that rewards practice and pays off on birds that have heard plenty of calling pressure.
Smoke gray acrylic keeps this call visually subtle in the blind without sacrificing sight picture or handling. Whether you're running a large spread or hunting tight quarters, a straightforward mallard hen call belongs in every serious duck hunter's vest.
A double reed design lets you produce the core vocalizations of a mallard hen: clucks, feed calls, and contact notes. Friction calls are especially good for softer, more conversational tones that don't spook cautious birds the way louder air-blown calls can.
Friction calls require you to rub a paddle against the reeds to generate sound, which takes more practice than simply blowing air through a call. Most hunters find the learning curve worthwhile because the payoff is better control over tone and volume on responsive ducks.
A mallard hen call is most effective on mallards themselves. If you're hunting mallards or mallard-dominant mixed flocks, this is a core tool.
