Daniel Defense
The Daniel Defense M4A1 FSP RIS II 12.25" free-floating handguard is a purpose-built rail system born from SOCOM requirements and proven in the field. This isn't off-the-shelf AR furniture—it's built to the exacting standards that special operations demanded when Daniel Defense designed it for the SOPMOD II program. If you're running an AR-15 and want a handguard that maximizes barrel free float for accuracy while giving you genuine modularity, this is the kind of gear that earns its place on a serious rifle.
What makes the RIS II stand out is its engineering philosophy: every feature serves a purpose. The 6061-T6 aluminum construction is aircraft-grade material, anodized in Type III hard coat for a durable FDE finish that resists wear and corrosion. The continuous upper rail platform and full Mil-Spec 1913 Picatinny rails give you uninterrupted mounting real estate for optics, lights, and accessories. The two-piece design with removable lower rail section opens up compatibility options—historically designed to accept an M203 grenade launcher without additional tools or parts, a capability baked into the rail itself. The 6-bolt attachment system using Grade 8 military-spec fasteners locks the handguard solidly to your upper receiver, and the steel barrel nut ensures the patented bolt-up system holds tight through rounds and duty cycles.
At 17.1 ounces and 12.25 inches long, the RIS II balances coverage and weight. The true free-floating barrel design eliminates handguard-to-barrel contact, removing a major variable in accuracy. For hunters, match shooters, or anyone who needs a rifle that shoots where it's pointed, that matters. This is the kind of handguard that doesn't need constant tweaking or tuning—it's designed to work and stay working.

| Upper Rail | Continuous mil-spec 1913 Picatinny |
| Gas System | Carbine |
Yes—this RIS II is designed for AR-15 platforms with carbine gas systems. The 6-bolt attachment system connects to your upper receiver using the patented bolt-up system. Make sure your upper receiver is compatible with this mounting interface before ordering.
Free floating eliminates contact between the handguard and barrel, removing a variable that can affect shot placement. Whether you're hunting, competing, or shooting at distance, a truly free-floating setup gives your rifle the best chance to shoot to its potential. This handguard is designed with that principle as its foundation.
The modular lower rail section is removable. This design originated from SOCOM requirements for M203 grenade launcher integration, though the RIS II is widely used on modern rifles simply as a premium handguard. The upper rail platform remains continuous whether the lower section is attached or removed.
The continuous upper rail platform and full mil-spec 1913 Picatinny rails give you uninterrupted mounting surface for any standard-mount accessories—scopes, red dots, lights, laser designators, and more. The handguard itself doesn't include accessories; you mount them to the rails.
