Daiwa
The Daiwa CR80 baitcasting reel is built for anglers who want serious casting performance without the weight penalty. Its compact 80-size frame combines a carbon resin body with a double-anodized aluminum spool to keep the reel down to just 6.9 ounces—light enough for all-day accuracy and comfort, yet rigid enough to handle the demands of precision casting. With a 7.5:1 gear ratio and 14-pound test capacity, the CR80 sits in that sweet spot between lightning-fast retrieves and the mechanical advantage you need for solid hooksets and line control.
This is a reel that rewards technique. The ergonomic design—featuring a 90mm swept handle and a palm-friendly compact body—lets you dial in your release and focus on distance and placement rather than fighting fatigue. The 32mm spool diameter aids casting distance while the carbon resin frame keeps deflection minimal, meaning more consistent performance cast after cast. Whether you're working shallow cover, flipping grass, or launching finesse baits on open water, the CR80 delivers the kind of no-nonsense reliability that makes you forget you're thinking about gear and just fishing.
Daiwa's reputation for engineering thoughtful, durable tackle shows in every detail here. This isn't a reel that needs breaking in or babying—it's built to work hard and keep working. The CR80 appeals to both tournament-minded casters and serious recreational anglers who want to maximize performance per ounce carried.
| Brand | Daiwa |
| Model | CR80 |
| Gear Ratio | 7.5:1 |
| Line Capacity | 14 lb / 100 yds |
| Weight | 6.9 oz |
| Spool Diameter | 32 mm |
| Handle Length | 90 mm |
| Frame Material | Carbon Resin |
| Spool Material | Double Anodized Aluminum |
The CR80's light weight, compact design, and 7.5:1 ratio make it ideal for freshwater baitcasting techniques where precision and comfort matter: flipping, pitching, working shallow cover, and finesse presentations. The 14-pound capacity keeps it versatile across bass, panfish, and light saltwater work.
At 6.9 ounces, the CR80 is distinctly light for a baitcaster, which cuts fatigue during long casting sessions and makes it comfortable to fish all day without wearing you down.
A 7.5:1 ratio means the spool turns 7.5 times for each full turn of the handle. This is a moderate-to-fast ratio that gives you quick retrieves while maintaining enough mechanical advantage for setting hooks and controlling heavy or active fish.
The double-anodized aluminum spool and carbon resin frame offer corrosion resistance, making the reel capable of light saltwater use. However, freshwater and brackish applications are its primary design focus.
