Colt
The Colt LW Commander .45 ACP is a lightweight single-action pistol built on proven 1911 geometry but engineered for practical carry. Colt's aluminum alloy frame cuts weight to 29.4 ounces without sacrificing the strength or pointability that makes the .45 ACP a trusted round for defensive work. This is a gun that bridges the gap between classic 1911 ergonomics and modern carry comfort—accurate enough for the range, reliable enough for duty or daily carry, and balanced enough that you'll actually want to shoot it regularly.
The LW Commander's 4.25-inch barrel and 7.75-inch overall length hit the sweet spot between shootability and concealment. A dual recoil spring system manages the energetic .45 ACP cartridge, reducing felt recoil while extending the life of the springs themselves—a real engineering win for a gun you plan to train with. The carbon steel slide pairs with that lightweight alloy frame to maintain proper lockup and longevity. Novak white dot sights and a low-profile mount mean you get a sight picture you can actually use in daylight or low light without fighting glare, and the upswept beavertail grip safety keeps the gun secure in the hand without pinching or printing under a shirt. Custom G10 grips in black cherry provide both aggressive texture where you need it and a classic look that ages well.
Whether you're a dedicated 1911 shooter stepping down to a lighter frame, someone shopping for a reliable defensive pistol that doesn't demand a break-in period, or a competitor who values a platform with decades of proven gunsmithing support, the Colt LW Commander delivers without gimmicks. The .45 ACP chambering, 8+1 capacity, and time-tested ergonomics mean you're starting with a solid foundation—one built by a manufacturer with genuine history in the format.

Yes. The aluminum frame keeps weight at 29.4 ounces, the 4.25-inch barrel and 7.75-inch overall length are compact enough for appendix, waistband, or shoulder carry, and the upswept beavertail grip safety is designed to reduce printing and bind-up under clothing.
The dual recoil spring setup reduces the felt recoil impulse of the .45 ACP while extending the service life of the recoil spring itself. This benefits both training volume and long-term reliability.
The Colt LW Commander is a standard 1911-pattern pistol, but because it uses an aluminum alloy frame rather than steel, you should verify compatibility with any gunsmiths or aftermarket parts before installation. Frame material can affect how certain components fit or function.
The LW Commander ships with Novak white dot sights mounted on a low-profile base, designed for rapid sight acquisition without excessive height or snag risk.
