Cold Steel
The Cold Steel Gentleman's Stockman folding knife is a three-blade classicdesigned for everyday carry, light camp work, and general utility tasks. This isn't a tactical folder or a heavy-duty chopper—it's a refined, no-nonsense pocket knife built around the traditional Stockman pattern. The knife pairs genuine yellow bone handles with polished stainless steel bolsters for a look that works in both backcountry and casual settings, and its slip-joint locking mechanism offers familiar, reliable one-handed deployment without buttons or levers to fuss with.
Three distinct blade profiles give you versatility in a compact package. The 2.5-inch clip-point blade handles general cutting, slicing, and detail work. A 2.1-inch spey blade—originally designed for field dressing game—excels at controlled cuts and controlled peeling tasks. The 2-inch sheepsfoot blade, with its blunt, curved edge, is ideal for work that demands precision without risk of puncture, such as opening packages or careful slicing near yourself or others. All three blades are ground from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, chosen for edge retention and corrosion resistance in a practical, maintainable package.
At 3.75 inches closed, the Gentleman's Stockman rides easily in a pocket without bulk or weight, making it a logical choice for hunters, anglers, campers, and anyone who values a quality knife that doesn't demand constant maintenance. Cold Steel's reputation for straightforward design and honest materials backs this one—no marketing, just a tool that works.
| Blade 1 Length | 2.5" (clip point) |
| Blade 2 Length | 2.1" (spey) |
| Blade 3 Length | 2.0" (sheepsfoot) |
| Blade Steel | 8Cr13MoV Stainless |
| Handle Material | Yellow bone with polished stainless bolsters |
| Locking Mechanism | Slip joint |
| Closed Length | 3.75" |
A Stockman is a multi-blade utility knife historically favored by ranchers, farmers, and outdoorsmen. The clip-point blade handles general cutting; the spey blade excels at detailed work and field dressing; the sheepsfoot blade's blunt edge is perfect for tasks requiring control and safety. It's ideal for camp chores, hunting and dressing game, fishing prep, and everyday pocket carry.
A spey blade has a spine that curves down to meet a slightly curved edge, designed for controlled, deliberate cuts. A sheepsfoot blade features a completely blunt curve from spine to edge—no point at all—making it safer for work near yourself or a companion, and excellent for opening packages or detailed slicing where a sharp point could be a liability.
8Cr13MoV is a solid mid-range stainless choice. It holds an edge reasonably well, resists corrosion in typical outdoor conditions, and is straightforward to sharpen with basic tools. It's not a premium high-carbon steel and won't match exotic alloys, but it offers a practical balance of edge life, ease of care, and reliability for general camp and utility work.
A slip-joint lock relies on spring tension against the blade's tang rather than an active lock bar or pin. You open the blade until it clicks past a detent point, where it holds firmly under normal use. Slip joints are lightweight, low-maintenance, and familiar—though they require slightly more care than liner locks or frame locks in rough or inverted work.
