Cold Steel
The Cold Steel Black Fly Thrower is a fixed-blade throwing knife built from 1055 carbon steel, a time-tested alloy known for holding an edge and accepting a keen point—ideal for target practice or backcountry camp use. This is a no-nonsense thrower: the blade and handle are machined from the same carbon steel stock, eliminating weak points where separate components meet. If you're looking for a reliable, affordable knife to learn throwing technique or keep on hand for outdoor work, the Black Fly delivers proven performance without the premium price tag of exotic alloys or elaborate handles.
Cold Steel's reputation in fixed-blade design means you're getting a knife engineered for real use, not just aesthetics. The 1055 carbon steel construction means this thrower will take a beating and come back for more—though you'll want to keep it clean and dry to prevent patina and surface rust, part of owning a carbon steel blade in the field. The single-piece construction adds durability where it counts, and the plain edge geometry is proven for consistent rotation and stick rates in wood or target media.
Whether you're a knife-throwing enthusiast setting up a budget-friendly practice setup, or an outdoor user who values a simple, tough fixed blade in camp, the Black Fly Thrower offers honest Cold Steel craftsmanship. It's the kind of tool that rewards practice and doesn't demand constant fussing.

| Model | CS80STMA |
| Blade & Handle Material | 1055 Carbon Steel |
| Edge Type | Plain |
| Construction | Fixed Blade |
Both the blade and handle are forged from 1055 carbon steel, a durable, traditional alloy that holds an edge well and is easy to sharpen. This single-piece construction means there are no seams or moving parts to weaken over time.
Yes. The plain edge and fixed-blade design are optimized for target throwing. The balanced weight and single-steel construction deliver consistent rotation and stick rates in wood or appropriate target media.
Carbon steel will develop a patina and can surface-rust if left wet or exposed to moisture without care. Keep it clean and dry between uses, and oil it occasionally if storing for extended periods. Many users consider this part of the character of a carbon steel blade.
The product listing provides only the knife itself (model CS80STMA). Check with our team if you have questions about any accessories or sheaths available separately.
