Buckeye Baits
The Buckeye Football Jig in 1/2 oz brown is a bottom-contact lure built for bass anglers working structure-heavy water. Its distinctive flat-head profile keeps the jig upright as it crawls along the bottom, mimicking the natural stance of a foraging crawfish or other prey. That presentation—steady and lifelike—makes it effective in situations where visibility and natural behavior matter, whether you're casting to rocks, drop-offs, or any piece of cover that holds fish.
What sets this jig apart for serious cover fishing is the durable fiber weedguard. That guard lets you probe thick vegetation, rocky banks, and laydowns without constant hang-ups, so you spend more time fishing and less time picking debris. The high-quality silicone skirt moves and breathes in the water, adding bulk and action to every retrieve while maintaining that crawfish profile.
The 1/2 oz weight strikes a practical balance for deeper water and current without becoming cumbersome for medium-weight tackle. Brown is a natural choice in stained water or around muddy bottoms—it blends with the environment while still standing out enough to trigger bites from competitive bass. Pair it with a craw or crawfish trailer for maximum effect, or fish it naked when bass are keying on a simpler profile.
Cast it to structure—rocks, laydowns, grass edges—and work it slowly along the bottom with short hops and pauses. The flat head naturally wants to stand upright, so let it settle and do the work. That crawfish impression triggers bites from bass hunting along the bottom.
Fiber weedguards are designed to flex out of the way on the hookset while still protecting against snags in cover. You'll still get solid penetration when you drive the rod.
This brown 1/2 oz is versatile for stained water and natural bottoms. If you fish clearer water or shallower depths, you might size down; darker, dirtier conditions favor brown and black.
Many anglers pair football jigs with crawfish or creature trailers to bulk up the profile and add tail action. You can fish it bare if bass are responding to a cleaner look, but a trailer often means more bites.
