Browning
The Browning BRN 3220517B Desolation Large is a full-sized fixed blade knife built for serious field work. Designed as a general-purpose hunting and camp knife, it pairs a straightforward drop-point blade with a handle scaled for extended use without hand fatigue. This is the kind of tool that earns its place in your pack year after year—nothing flashy, everything functional.
The blade runs 6 inches in length and is forged from 440C stainless steel, then finished with a black powder coat for corrosion resistance and a non-reflective profile in the field. 440C holds an edge well enough for field dressing, butchering, food prep, and general camp tasks, and it's easier to maintain than higher-carbon alternatives when you're away from a whetstone. The powder-coated finish protects against rust and gives the blade a professional, working appearance.
The handle is constructed from tan Micarta laminate—a composite material that resists moisture, won't slip in wet conditions, and develops character with use. Micarta is tough enough to handle impact and repeated use without degrading, and it won't crack or splinter the way some handle materials do. The substantial size and grip design make this knife comfortable during extended cutting sessions, whether you're breaking down game or working around camp.
If you're looking for a large fixed blade knife that handles hunting, field dressing, and camp chores without pretension, the Desolation Large delivers straightforward performance at a price that doesn't demand compromise.
