Brownells
A .22 caliber rimfire rifle bore brush that handles serious carbon, lead, and rust fouling. Brownells Standard Line brushes come in a 12-pack with stainless steel bristles and a one-piece looped-and-wound steel shank—the kind of workhorse cleaning tool that shooters and gunsmiths buy in bulk because they get used up on the bench and in the field. If your .22 has collected stubborn deposits from years of shooting or storage, the aggressive scrubbing action of stainless steel bristles cuts through what softer brass won't touch.
Built for durability and real cleaning power, these brushes are made the right way: the shank is looped and wound as a single piece, not twisted together and cut short, which means you get a solid connection and longer bristle life. At 3.27 inches overall length, each brush threads onto standard .22 caliber cleaning rods with 5-40 threads, the spec for rimfire. Stock a dozen and keep one in your range bag, one in the truck, one at the bench, and one in rotation while others dry.
Fair warning: stainless steel bristles are more aggressive than brass, so they're best suited to deep cleaning fouled bores rather than routine maintenance. Heavy use does accelerate bore wear, so use them strategically when you really need them—not on every session. For a .22 that's seen hard use or been neglected, this is the brush that will get the job done.
| Caliber | .22 Rimfire |
| Bristle Material | Stainless Steel |
| Shank Material | Steel, looped and wound |
| Overall Length | 3.27 inches (8.3 cm) |
| Thread Type | 5-40 threads |
| Quantity | 12 brushes per pack |
These brushes are threaded for .22 caliber rifles with 5-40 threads, the standard for rimfire cleaning rod attachments.
Stainless steel bristles are best for deep cleaning severely fouled, leaded, or rusted bores where gentler brass brushes won't cut through the buildup. Because they're more aggressive, reserve them for problem bores rather than routine maintenance to avoid accelerating bore wear.
Brownells packs these in bulk because shooters and gunsmiths use them up—one wears out, gets left in a cleaning kit, gets loaned out, or sits in rotation while drying. A dozen keeps you covered at the bench, in the field, and on the road without running short.
No. These brushes have a one-piece looped and wound shank, not two wires twisted together and chopped short. That one-piece construction is more durable and gives you a more reliable connection to your cleaning rod.
