Brownells
The Brownells Lewis Lead Remover Rifle Kit for 44/45 caliber is a purpose-built bore cleaning system designed to tackle stubborn lead and wad fouling that standard patches can't handle. If you shoot cast bullets, shotgun slugs, or high-volume ammunition through centerfire rifles, lead buildup degrades accuracy and increases fouling—and this kit gives you the brass patch technology needed to restore a truly clean bore without marring the rifling.
What sets the Lewis system apart is its brass patch design. Unlike standard bronze or cotton patches, brass removes even heavy lead and plastic deposits while being gentle enough to preserve the integrity of your bore. The tips connect to any cleaning rod equipped with 8-32 threads, so you're not locked into proprietary equipment. This kit covers 44 and 45 caliber rifles, making it ideal for shooters working with larger-bore rifles, big-bore hunting platforms, or specialty cartridges in that range.
Brownells recommends following the Lewis lead remover with J-B Bore Cleaner for maximum cleaning effectiveness. That two-step approach—mechanical removal with brass patches, then chemical cleaning—leaves your bore in top condition and can measurably improve shot-to-shot consistency, especially if you reload or shoot cast ammunition regularly.
Yes, as long as your cleaning rod has 8-32 threaded tips. This is the standard thread size on most modern cleaning rods.
This kit is designed for 44 and 45 caliber rifles.
Yes. The brass patch system is specifically designed to remove lead deposits from cast ammunition and wad fouling, making it ideal for reloaders and shooters using non-jacketed rounds.
Brownells recommends following with J-B Bore Cleaner to complete the cleaning process and achieve a fully clean bore.
