Lead buildup in a handgun's barrel, chamber, and forcing cone is one of the most common threats to accuracy and reliability—and one of the easiest to overlook. The Brownells Lewis Lead Remover Handgun Kit for 9mm, .38, and .357 caliber pistols is purpose-built to dissolve and remove lead fouling safely and effectively, without risk of damage to your gun. If you shoot cast bullets, reloads, or standard range ammunition regularly, lead accumulation will eventually degrade your groups and increase chamber pressure. This kit gives you a straightforward, proven solution trusted by competitive shooters and serious handgun users nationwide.
The Lewis Lead Remover works by chemically breaking down lead deposits that standard bore cleaning can't reach. Lead doesn't just sit on the barrel's surface—it embeds itself in the forcing cone and creeps into the chamber, where it hardens and affects how rounds chamber and fire. A handgun affected by significant lead fouling can lose accuracy dramatically and develop feeding issues. This kit targets the problem directly, restoring your barrel to a clean, lead-free state without requiring specialized gunsmithing or aggressive mechanical scrubbing that risks bore damage.
The kit is sized and formulated for 9mm, .38 Special, and .357 Magnum pistols, making it ideal for shooters who work with any or all of these common handgun calibers. For best results, many shooters pair the Lewis Lead Remover with J-B Bore Cleaner as a two-step process—the lead remover tackles the heavy fouling, and bore cleaner follows up for a truly clean bore. If you're a regular shooter, cast-bullet handloader, or anyone who's noticed accuracy creep over time, this kit is a practical addition to your cleaning bench.
This kit is formulated for 9mm, .38 Special, and .357 Magnum pistols. If you shoot multiple calibers within this range, this single kit covers all three.
No. The Lewis Lead Remover is designed to clean lead fouling without any risk of damage to your barrel, chamber, or other parts.
That depends on your shooting volume and ammunition type. Regular shooters, especially those using cast or reloaded ammunition, may benefit from periodic lead removal to maintain accuracy. Occasional shooters typically need it less often, but any visible accuracy degradation over time is a sign lead buildup may be occurring.
Yes. Many shooters use the Lewis Lead Remover as a specialized step, followed by J-B Bore Cleaner or other standard bore cleaners to finish the job and achieve a completely clean barrel.
