Birchwood Casey
If you're restoring a rifle stock or bringing new wood back to life, Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil Stock Finish is the go-to choice for serious shooters and gunsmiths. This 8 oz bottle of natural wood finish delivers that coveted hand-rubbed look without the days of labor—three coats, applied over a single day, and you're done. It's a purified, triple-processed blend of all-natural oils that soak into the grain, sealing out moisture while letting the wood's character shine through.
What makes Tru-Oil stand out on the bench is speed and durability. Each coat dries in 90 to 120 minutes, so you're not waiting around between applications. The finish won't yellow or cloud the grain as it hardens, and repeated coats build a surface that's genuinely tougher than bare wood. Whether you're refinishing an old stock that's seen better days or finishing an unfinished blank, Tru-Oil handles both jobs with equal competence. Need a high-gloss mirror finish? Layer it on. Prefer satin? Cut the shine back with fine steel wool or rubbing compound after the final coat. The versatility is built in.
Maintenance is refreshingly simple too. A stock finished with Tru-Oil shows minor dings and rubs—the reality of field guns—but they're not permanent. A gentle rub with a pad dampened in Tru-Oil blends them back in and restores the finish. For new, unfinished wood, pair this with Birchwood Casey Clear Sealer & Filler beforehand to get the best results. Reach for Tru-Oil when you want a finish that looks like craftsmanship but works like chemistry.

| Product Type | Wood Stock Finish |
| Volume | 8 oz bottle |
| Finish Type | Natural wood oil |
| Drying Time per Coat | 90–120 minutes |

Tru-Oil works best on unfinished wood when you first apply Birchwood Casey Clear Sealer & Filler. This prepares the grain and ensures even color and sheen.
With three coats at 90–120 minutes drying time each, you can finish a stock in a single day. Exact timing depends on temperature and humidity.
Multiple coats of Tru-Oil build a high-gloss finish. For a satin or more subdued sheen, you can cut the gloss back after the final coat using fine steel wool or rubbing compound.
Minor marks and scuffs on Tru-Oil finished wood are easily repaired. Simply rub the spot gently with a pad moistened with Tru-Oil to blend it back in.
