Birchwood Casey
The Birchwood Casey Super Blue Liquid Gun Bluing Solution is a double-strength liquid bluing product designed to restore or touch up the finish on steel firearms parts. Unlike traditional bluing paste, this fast-acting liquid solution works more quickly and typically requires fewer coats, making it a practical choice for gunsmiths, gunsmiths' apprentices, and serious shooters who regularly maintain their own rifles, shotguns, and handguns. The 3 oz. bottle is sized for intermittent touch-up work rather than large-scale refinishing projects.
This liquid formulation reacts faster than paste-based alternatives, which means less time waiting between applications and a more efficient workflow when you're addressing small wear spots, minor rust damage, or intentional refinishing on hardened steel parts that contain nickel and chrome alloys. The solution produces a dark black-blue finish that matches the factory appearance of properly blued firearms. Application is straightforward: use a cotton swab (like a Q-Tip) to apply the solution directly to clean, rust-free metal surfaces. Because it's a potent chemical solution, careful application keeps the bluing confined to the area you intend to rework—it can affect existing blue finish if it runs or drips onto untouched surfaces.
Birchwood Casey Super Blue works best on highly polished steel, so surface preparation is key: remove any rust, corrosion, or old finish before application, and ensure the metal is completely clean and dry. This isn't a replacement for a full refinish, but it's the go-to solution for quick, professional-looking repairs and touch-ups that keep your firearms looking well-maintained.
