Bill Lewis Baits
The Bill Lewis Rattle Trap 3/4 Chrome Blue Back is a lipless crankbait built for anglers who want to cover water fast and trigger aggressive strikes. This is one of the most reliable search-and-find baits in any bass fisherman's tackle box, equally at home in shallow grass beds, mid-depth structure, or slung deep over underwater humps. The 3/4-ounce size balances castability with a compact profile that mimics natural baitfish and produces internal noise that draws fish from a distance.
What makes the Rattle Trap effective is its versatility. You can fish it the simple way—cast and crank through shallow water where bass ambush prey—or use it to work deep structure by letting it sink and burning it back up a slope, deflecting off rocks and obstructions as it rises. The loud, flashy design cuts through stained water and gets attention in heavy cover where subtlety loses to visibility. The Chrome Blue Back finish delivers a natural profile that matches many regional forage species while the flash catches light and triggers predatory instinct.
Whether you're fishing tournament conditions, sight-fishing shallow beds, or making deep exploratory casts over unknown structure, the Rattle Trap 3/4 delivers the kind of reliable, no-nonsense performance that has kept this bait in production for decades. It's not fancy, but it works because it covers water efficiently and provokes fish into eating it.
This bait works across a wide depth range. You can fish it shallow by casting into grass and retrieving along the surface, suspend it in mid-water with a steady retrieve, or let it sink to bottom and crank it back up through deep structure and underwater points.
Yes. The loud internal rattle and flashy Chrome Blue Back finish make it effective in lower visibility conditions where fish rely on vibration and flash to locate prey.
It's one of the best applications for this bait. The Rattle Trap is particularly well-known for ripping through shallow vegetation and surprising aggressive bass that hold in thick cover.
