Berger 6.5mm 140 grain VLD HPBT hunting bullets are engineered for hunters who demand terminal performance on big game. These .264 caliber projectiles combine a sharp nose profile with a slightly thinner jacket designed to initiate expansion after 2 to 3 inches of penetration—the depth where it matters most in the vital zone. The VLD (Very Low Drag) design minimizes drag for flatter trajectories and retained energy at distance, while the controlled-expansion geometry produces the stopping power serious hunters rely on.
What sets the Berger VLD apart is its energy-dump philosophy. Rather than passing through game like a solid, the bullet sheds 40 to 85 percent of its weight as fragmentation into surrounding tissue once expansion begins. This combination of shrapnel and hydrostatic shock creates a wound cavity deep in the vitals—the kind of decisive terminal effect that results in fast, ethical kills. Hunters who've switched to Berger VLDs report fewer follow-up shots and less tracking; the animal typically goes into shock from the magnitude of internal trauma.
This box contains 100 bullets, a full reloading unit for hunters who handload their own ammunition. The 140-grain weight is a proven performer in 6.5mm cartridges popular for mid-range to long-range hunting—think 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, and similar platforms. If you're tired of bullets that either fail to expand or pencil through, the VLD's reputation for consistency and lethality makes it worth trying on your next hunt.
| Caliber | .264 (6.5mm) |
| Weight | 140 Grains |
| Bullet Type | VLD HPBT (Very Low Drag Hollow Point Boat Tail) |
| Count per Box | 100 |
| Intended Use | Hunting |
The 6.5mm 140-grain VLD is compatible with all .264 caliber rifles—including 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 6.5-284 Norma, and similar platforms. Always verify your specific rifle's chamber and consult handloading data for your exact cartridge before loading.
Berger VLD bullets are designed to initiate expansion 2 to 3 inches after impact, which corresponds to typical hunting distances where velocity is still high enough for reliable expansion in the vital zone. They're intended for field use rather than paper targets.
These are bullets only—reloading components. You will need to handload them into your own cartridges with powder, primers, and brass cases.
The VLD's sharp nose and thinner jacket delay expansion until 2–3 inches of penetration, concentrating energy and fragmentation in the vital organs rather than on the hide and bone. This design philosophy prioritizes deep wound cavities and quick, ethical kills over deep penetration.
