Barnes Bullets
The Barnes Banded Solid .470 Nitro Express bullet is purpose-built for dangerous game hunting where bullet reliability is non-negotiable. Each 500-grain solid round-nose projectile is machined from a homogenous copper/zinc alloy that resists deformation and deflection, even when striking heavy bone or dense muscle. These are the go-to dangerous game bullets for professional hunters and serious rifle shooters who demand penetration over expansion—where stopping power and consistency matter more than wound cavity.
Barnes' signature band design—multiple rings cut into the bullet's shank—reduces pressure buildup in the bore and virtually eliminates copper fouling, keeping your rifle cleaner and more accurate through extended shooting sessions. The new nose geometry tracks straighter through bone and tissue, improving reliability on unpredictable angles. Because these solids are weight-matched to Barnes TSX expanding bullets of the same caliber, you can swap between ammunition types without worrying about point-of-impact shifts, giving you flexibility in the field without the headache of re-sighting.
Each box contains 20 bullets, delivering the consistency you need when reloading for big-bore rifles like the .470 Nitro Express. If you're assembling ammo for African plains game or other dangerous game hunting, these solids give you the penetration and durability that expanding bullets simply can't match.
| Caliber | .470 Nitro Express |
| Bullet Diameter | .474" |
| Weight | 500 grains |
| Profile | Flat Point (FP) |
| Construction | Homogenous copper/zinc alloy |
| Count per Box | 20 |
Yes. These Banded Solids are weight-matched to Barnes TSX expanding bullets in the same caliber, so you can load and use them without re-zeroing your rifle.
Solids are designed for maximum penetration on dangerous game and heavy bone, whereas expanding bullets rely on upset and energy transfer. Solids won't fragment or deflect on heavy bone, making them the choice for reliability on unpredictable angles and dangerous situations.
The bands relieve pressure in the bore and virtually eliminate copper fouling, keeping your rifle cleaner and more accurate over extended shooting sessions.
These are component bullets for handloading. You will need to reload them into cartridges using your own powders and primers for .470 Nitro Express ammunition.
