Aguila Ammunition's 22 Long Rifle subsonic rounds deliver the quiet, controllable performance you want for target shooting and small-game hunting without the sharp crack that sends rounds downrange. Loaded with a 40-grain lead round nose bullet and propelled to 1025 fps, these rimfire cartridges are purpose-built for shooters who prioritize hearing protection, minimal noise disturbance, or simply prefer the feel of a softer-recoiling trigger press. Whether you're zeroing a rifle, running drills at the range, or hunting varmints where noise discipline matters, subsonic .22 LR rounds give you the ballistic reliability of a proven platform at an accessible price point.

The 40-grain lead projectile is a straightforward, no-frills design—solid and durable for consistent accuracy in target applications. Brass cases support reloading if that's part of your handloading practice, though these come ready to shoot out of the box. At subsonic velocity, you'll notice reduced sound compared to standard-velocity .22 LR, making them a smart choice for shooting in noise-sensitive environments or when you want to keep things quiet on a given day. Each box contains 50 rounds, so you get a practical quantity for a range session, training block, or a day afield.

Aguila has built a reputation for making affordable, dependable ammunition across calibers—and this subsonic 40-grain load is no exception. You're not paying for flashy marketing or exotic bullet construction; you're getting honest-to-goodness quiet, accurate .22 LR at a price that won't have you rationing your trigger time. Good for beginners sorting out their first .22, competitors looking to save on ammunition cost during practice, or anyone who wants to squeeze off reliable shots without a full-volume report.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does subsonic .22 LR mean, and when would I use it?

Subsonic ammunition travels below the speed of sound—in this case, 1025 fps—which produces a significantly quieter report than standard-velocity .22 LR. It's ideal for target shooting in noise-sensitive areas, suppressed .22 rifles, training where hearing fatigue is a concern, or any situation where noise discipline is a priority. You'll still get reliable function and accuracy; the trade-off is pure sound reduction.

Can I reload these brass cases?

Yes, the brass cases are suitable for reloading if you're a handloader. After firing, you can process them through your reloading sequence the same way as standard .22 LR brass.

Is this ammunition good for hunting?

The 40-grain lead round nose bullet is suitable for small-game hunting and varmint work where .22 LR is appropriate. The subsonic velocity makes it particularly useful when you want to minimize noise while hunting, though it still delivers the ballistic performance of a proven .22 LR platform.

How many rounds come in a box?

Each box contains 50 rounds, giving you a practical quantity for a range session, training block, or a day of hunting and plinking.
