Great Lakes Firearms
The Great Lakes Firearms 16" AR-15 barrel in .223 Wylde is a versatile mid-length upper receiver component built for shooters who want accuracy and reliability without compromise. This nitride-finished 4150 steel barrel handles both standard 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington ammunition, giving you flexibility at the range or in the field. The 1:8" twist rate stabilizes a wide range of bullet weights, from lightweight varmint loads to heavier match-grade rounds, making it a practical choice for hunters, competition shooters, and general-purpose AR builds alike.
At 16 inches, this barrel strikes a balance between velocity and handling—long enough to wring out good performance from .223 Wylde loads but short enough to keep your overall rifle package maneuverable. The carbine-length gas system is time-tested in AR-15 platforms, delivering reliable cycling and manageable recoil impulse. The 1/2x28 thread pitch is the standard for AR-15 muzzle devices, so attaching a suppressor, brake, or flash hider is straightforward.
The nitride finish provides durable corrosion resistance and a matte black appearance that blends into most builds. M4 feed ramps are cut into the chamber, ensuring smooth feeding from any standard AR-15 magazine and upper receiver. The .750" gas block journal accepts standard carbine gas blocks, keeping your parts compatible with the broader AR ecosystem. Whether you're assembling a new upper, replacing a worn barrel, or building a dedicated shooter, this Great Lakes Firearms barrel delivers the accuracy potential and dependable performance that serious rifle builders expect.
