Daniel Defense
The Daniel Defense 12.5" Government Carbine 5.56 Barrel with 1-7 twist rate is a cold hammer-forged barrel built for shooters who need a short, handy setup without sacrificing accuracy. Whether you're building a compact tactical carbine, a home-defense AR, or a truck gun for overlanding, this barrel delivers the precision you'd expect from a quality match-grade component in a shorter, faster-handling package. The 1-7 twist stabilizes the full range of 5.56 ammunition, from lighter target loads to heavier steel-core rounds.
Built from chromium-molybdenum-vanadium alloy steel, this barrel is cold hammer-forged for exceptional strength and consistency. Every barrel undergoes magnetic particle inspection (MPI) to catch internal flaws before they become reliability problems. The manganese phosphate finish resists wear and corrosion—practical protection for a working gun. The M4-type feed ramps on the barrel extension ensure reliable feeding, and the .750" outside diameter at the gas block accepts standard components.
The 12.5" length pairs with a carbine-length gas system, tuning the dwell time for a balanced, reliable short-barrel setup. This is a government-profile barrel, meaning it maintains consistent diameter along its length for straightforward assembly and predictable performance. If you're replacing a worn or damaged barrel or completing a short-barreled upper receiver, this is the kind of no-compromise part that justifies the Daniel Defense reputation.

A 1-7 twist is designed to stabilize the full spectrum of 5.56 ammunition, from lighter 55-grain match rounds through heavy 77-grain loads and steel-core variants. It's the most versatile twist for modern 5.56 rifles.
Yes, this is a standard 5.56 barrel with M4-type feed ramps and a .750" diameter at the gas block. It will fit any standard AR-15 upper receiver designed for carbine-length barrels. Your barrel extension and receiver must be properly headspaced, which is best verified during assembly or by a gunsmith.
Manganese phosphate is a proven mil-spec finish that resists corrosion and surface wear from handling and shooting. It's not a long-term rust preventative like stainless, but it provides reliable protection for a working gun and a durable, professional appearance.
This is a cold hammer-forged barrel with the strength and precision foundation that accuracy demands. At 12.5 inches, barrel length and velocity will be shorter than a full-length precision rifle, but the barrel itself is built to match-grade standards and will perform well at intermediate distances.
